Job Description
PG Global is seeking a Chief Mate to be responsible for cargo operations, deck crew supervision, safety, and assisting the Master in navigation and all aspects of ship/vessel operation.
Qualifications & Requirements:

Valid Certificate of Competency as Chief Mate (STCW II/2 or equivalent).

All mandatory STCW training up to date (Advanced Firefighting, Medical Care, Survival Craft, etc.).

Offshore / DP endorsement (if required by vessel type).

Minimum 3–5 years of sea service in progressively responsible deck officer roles.

Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
-
Proficiency in English (oral and written).
Key Responsibilities

Navigation & Watchkeeping
-
Stand bridge watch and assist the Master in navigation and manoeuvring.

Ensure compliance with COLREGs, passage plans, and voyage instructions.

Cargo & Stability
-
Plan, supervise, and execute cargo operations including loading, stowage, securing, and discharge.

Perform stability and stress calculations; manage ballast and trim.
-

Deck Operations & Maintenance
-
Supervise deck crew in daily operations, mooring, anchoring, and maintenance tasks.

Ensure lifting gear, safety equipment, and deck machinery are inspected and certified.

Safety & Compliance
-
Act as Safety Officer, overseeing drills, emergency preparedness, and permit-to-work systems.

Ensure compliance with international conventions (SOLAS, MARPOL, STCW, ISPS, MLC).

Maintain records, logs, and reports as required by company and authorities.

Leadership & Crew Management
-
Train, mentor, and supervise junior officers and ratings.

Monitor crew welfare and promote a strong safety culture.

Deputy to Master
-
Take command of the vessel if the Master is incapacitated or absent.

Support the Master in administration, communication with charterers, port authorities, and company.
