Job Description
PG Global is seeking a Master to be the overall commander of a vessel in the Gulf of Mexico. As Master you will hold the ultimate responsibility for the safety, security, and efficient operation of the ship, its crew, passengers, and cargo. You will ensure compliance with international regulations, company policies, and contractual obligations while leading all departments on board.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Command & Leadership

Exercise overall command of the vessel.

Lead, manage, and motivate all crew, fostering a strong safety and teamwork culture.

Delegate duties effectively while maintaining oversight.
2. Safety & Compliance

Ensure the vessel operates in compliance with international conventions (SOLAS, MARPOL, STCW, ISM, ISPS, MLC).

Act as the Ship Security Officer (SSO) or designate as required.

Conduct and oversee safety drills, inspections, and emergency preparedness.

Ensure proper record-keeping and reporting to flag state, port authorities, and company.
3. Navigation & Operations

Take overall responsibility for navigation, passage planning, and safe conduct of the voyage.

Supervise manoeuvring in ports, restricted waters, and during pilotage.

Approve cargo plans, stability calculations, and ballast operations.

Oversee mooring, anchoring, and deck operations.
4. Crew Management & Welfare

Ensure proper manning levels and verify crew certifications.

Maintain discipline, resolve disputes, and uphold company policies.

Monitor crew welfare, rest hours, training, and performance appraisals.
5. Administration & Communication

Serve as the main point of contact between the vessel and company/charterers/port authorities.

Maintain ship’s documentation, logbooks, and statutory certificates.

Submit voyage, incident, and operational reports to the company.
6. Emergency Response

Take command during emergencies (collision, fire, grounding, pollution, medical, etc.).

Ensure contingency plans are implemented effectively.

Coordinate with external authorities in case of incidents.
Qualifications & Requirements

Valid Certificate of Competency as Master (STCW II/2, Unlimited or appropriate for vessel class).

All mandatory STCW courses up to date (Advanced Firefighting, Medical Care, Survival Craft, BRM, etc.).

Minimum 5–10 years’ seagoing experience, with several years as Chief Mate.

Strong leadership, crisis management, and communication skills.

High level of English proficiency (oral and written).
Working Conditions

Rotational contracts for offshore/DP vessels.
